Very Delicious Kheer Recipe
Kheer is a traditional Indian dessert that is made by simmering milk and sugar together with rice, vermicelli, or other grains until the mixture thickens and takes on a creamy texture. The dish is often flavored with cardamom, saffron, or rose water, and is usually garnished with chopped nuts or dried fruit. Here is a delicious kheer recipe that you can try at home.
Ingredients:
- 1 liter full-fat milk
- 1/2 cup basmati rice, washed and drained
- 1/4 cup sugar (you can adjust the sweetness to your liking)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads, soaked in 1 tablespoon of warm milk for 10 minutes
- 1 tablespoon chopped almonds
- 1 tablespoon chopped pistachios
- 1 tablespoon chopped cashews
- 1 tablespoon raisins
- 1 tablespoon rose water (optional)
Instructions:
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, bring the milk to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let the milk simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Add the washed and drained basmati rice to the milk and stir well. Let the rice cook in the milk, stirring occasionally, until it becomes soft and starts to break down. This should take about 30-40 minutes.
- Once the rice is cooked, add the sugar and cardamom powder to the milk and stir well to combine. Let the kheer simmer for another 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Add the soaked saffron threads to the kheer and stir well. Let the kheer simmer for another 2-3 minutes to allow the saffron to infuse its flavor into the milk.
- Remove the kheer from the heat and stir in the chopped almonds, pistachios, cashews, and raisins. If you are using rose water, add it to the kheer at this point and stir well.
- Let the kheer cool to room temperature, then transfer it to a serving dish and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
- Garnish the kheer with additional chopped nuts and raisins before serving, if desired.
