Shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish that has become increasingly popular all over the world due to its flavorful blend of spices and tender, juicy meat. This delicious dish is perfect for a quick meal on the go or as a hearty dinner for family and friends. In this article, I will be sharing a unique shawarma recipe that you can try at home.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Pita bread
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Onion
- Tahini sauce
Instructions:
- Begin by marinating the chicken. In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, ground cumin, paprika, ground coriander, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Whisk until the ingredients are well combined.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and mix well to coat the chicken thoroughly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the chicken thighs on the sheet, making sure they are evenly spaced apart.
- Bake the chicken for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- While the chicken is cooling, prepare the toppings. Wash and chop the lettuce, tomato, and onion into small pieces.
- Once the chicken has cooled, use a sharp knife to slice it into thin strips. Warm the pita bread in the oven or on a stove-top griddle until it is slightly toasted and pliable.
- To assemble the shawarma, spread a generous spoonful of tahini sauce onto the center of the pita bread. Add a layer of lettuce, followed by a layer of sliced chicken. Top with chopped tomato and onion.
- Fold the sides of the pita bread inward and roll it up tightly, securing it with a toothpick if needed. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients until all the shawarmas are assembled.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious homemade shawarmas!
This shawarma recipe is unique because of the combination of spices used in the marinade, which adds a complex and flavorful taste to the dish.
