In this recipe, we’ll show you how to make a delicious tiramisu that’s sure to impress your guests.
Ingredients:
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 lb mascarpone cheese
- 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
- 1/4 cup rum or amaretto liqueur
- 24-30 ladyfingers
- Cocoa powder for dusting
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk until just simmering. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking.
- Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the custard cool to room temperature.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- In another mixing bowl, whisk the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone cheese until fully combined.
- Add the cooled custard to the mascarpone mixture and whisk until well combined.
- In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and rum or amaretto liqueur.
- Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for a few seconds, making sure it’s fully coated but not soaked.
- Arrange the soaked ladyfingers in a single layer in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
- Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine-mesh sieve.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Tips:
- For a non-alcoholic version, you can omit the rum or amaretto liqueur and use an equal amount of coffee instead.
- Make sure to use room temperature eggs for the custard to prevent curdling.
- Be careful not to over-soak the ladyfingers, or they may become mushy and fall apart.
- You can also add a layer of grated chocolate or chopped nuts between the layers of ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture for extra flavor and texture.
- Tiramisu can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Just be sure to dust it with cocoa powder right before serving.
